For about the past year Hailey and I have been telling visitors to the Heritage Oak Winery Tasting Room that beginning 2015 all wines Tom produces would be from 100% Estate Grown Fruit. We are really excited about this and have been anxiously awaiting those Estate Grown reds, which have been slowly maturing in the barrel room. We also summarize Tom’s philosophy about making wine for our visitors which goes something like this, “Bring in quality grapes from the vineyard and don’t mess it up.”
And nothing shows the convergence of Tom’s gentle hand in both the vineyard and the winemaking process than the soon-to-be-released 2015 Petite Sirah. Do you like a big bold wine that is yet rich and mellow? Then this wine is for you (and for me). Exhibiting a deep ruby red color in the glass with dark fruit aromas of blueberry and some black tea, this wine graces your palate with those flavors and hints of dark chocolate. And as I said, this is a big bold wine, not shy in any manner, yet it is rich and smooth with a warm, full mouthfeel – just the perfect balance of tannins, acid and fruit. Tom barrel aged this wine in new American Oak barrels for 18 months to give it a nice, lingering warm vanilla finish.
I know that all of us here at Heritage Oak are really excited about the happy convergence of Tom’s work in the vineyard and the winery as witnessed with his 2015 Petite Sirah. Tom’s planning to release this wine to coincide with the Winery’s 10th year anniversary. Details on the anniversary party and the wine release can be found at http://heritageoakwinery.com/events/, or on our Facebook page. And, oh yeah, during the release weekend this wine, along with the new 2015 Carnival, can be purchased at 20% off the bottle price (30% off for our wine club members).
I’ve run out of adjectives and factoids to describe this wine, let’s just say it is downright delicious. Come on by the Tasting Room for a splash to see for yourself. Enjoy the wine and enjoy the moment.
