Wow! It has been crazy busy here at Heritage Oak Winery, all month long, just nutzo. Tom is all wrapped up in harvest and all that that entails (he has crushed 18 different batches already and more to come, he’s just a crazy man!). Hailey has been taking care of a ton of wine club memberships and the shipping of this quarter’s selections (2012 Petit Verdot and 2013 ZINHEAD). Carmela…well I’m not sure what she is doing but she never seems to sit down! And as for me, I can’t really say what has kept me busy, but I’m sure it was way important. Whatever it was it has gotten in the way of me telling y’all about the recently released 2014 vintage of Zinfidelity. And that is way important cuz it is way GOOD!
Everyone knows about Zinfidelity — born of a mistake during the blending process that proved to be so delicious and popular that Tom just happens to inadvertently (wink, wink) make the same mistake year after year. For reasons that are way beyond my pay grade, the 2014 Zifi (shorthand here at the winery for Zinfidelity) just seems to have a little something extra in it.
Like past years, the 2014 Zifi is a 75/25 % blend of Estate Grown Zinfandel and Estate Grown Cabernet Sauvignon. Cab flavors grace the bouquet followed immediately by toasted notes of Zinfandel creating a warm and inviting aroma. The same phenomenon greets the tongue with a nice full mouth feel that lingers and lingers. And, as an added bonus, the tannins giving the structure to the mouth feel will allow this already yummy “mistake” to age gracefully for a few years to come.
How fun is all of this? As we move into fall I’m looking forward to pairing this wine with a hearty stew or perhaps a bowl of chili. Or perhaps just cozying up on a blustery rainy evening with some 2014 Zifi in a glass and letting the winds howl. Whatever and however, this is a wine to enjoy that will help create a perfect moment.
